Invisible City
Photo Collection
I hate how constructive I must be about describing the city I want to create. I hate having to think and plan. Why can’t I just do it. I’m not a very descriptive, words person when it comes to my work it’s hard for me to put it on a page. I like to do and see what comes of it and enjoy the journey.
I imagine a Dark blue moonlight in a commercial space/store. Like a gas station with shelves of products and a janky register the background. I image this girl chilling on the register with a huge blown bubble of gum. I want to go for an almost Sci-fi feel. Set in the future but not so different to our world now. Something unconventional.
I know I always shoot in the dark so I either want to go light with my images like blown out white/grey or go with camera flash like I’ve been doing. Youth adult world. Careless. Empty only them. We don’t drive in this city its empty no daylight.
Louisville city brick night. Almost apocalyptic, survival.
The individuals in my city just exist there and play around. They are carless. Freedom. No fear. Humor
Its empty no daylight. Traveling in an empty world little to no people.
Journey of solo youth travel in this empty world.
The images I shot where from multiple occasions. Different cities too. First shot in Louisville, as I went on a day trip. The photos did not come out good, as I was driving mostly all day and barely had the time to focus and get the shots I craved. I was with my friends on this trip and most of the time they held the camera shooting photos of their own. I only got one good photo I liked from this trip.
The rest of the shots were here at home in Lexington. Downtown and near my apartment. I shot these alone and it really helps me to focus on what I want I just took a walk from my apartment down the street I had in mind shooting something rundown or a junkyard. But I ended up shooting through glass doors of a storage facility. It felt very sketchy doing as I feel like they were watching me through the cameras and the alarms would go off anytime. Then I shoot the rest downtown. I think what help me with these photos was that I drive through downtown every day and I would have these places or subjects in mind and go I want to shoot that that would be a good photo and that’s what I did. I found that exploring those shots I found myself finding even better shots than I had in thought.
While doing this project I didn’t get exactly the image I had in mind but at the end I still think I was successful for what I was going for. I think the power of multiple images put together that have the same aura is hard to do especially if it’s not the same subject or the same setting and time. I must think it’s better to have these imagines that feel coherent rather than one outstanding image that overpowers or feels like the odd one out.
